Job Description:
Speech
Language Pathologist (SLP), also called Speech Therapist,
works with people who have communication impairments. The scope
of their practice extends beyond actual speech to include
cognitive functions, literacy, and social interaction:

Diagnose and
evaluate speech problems, such as disfluency (stuttering),
articulation, voice disorders, or language problems.

Teach individuals
how to strengthen muscles or use compensatory strategies to
swallow without choking or inhaling food or liquid.

Evaluate and treat
individuals with cognitive impairments (such as attention,
memory, and problem solving disorders) which may have resulted
from stroke, head trauma, or dementia.
