Clinical: Physical, Exercise & Recreational Therapy - Career Choices

Job Description:

Physical Therapies are about maintaining and restoring health and strength of the musculoskeletal system to relieve pain, restore function and prevent or limit injury. Therapists at all levels may be found in hospitals, free-standing clinics, gyms, nursing homes, and community centers:

Recreational Therapist

  • Guides enjoyable, engaging activities designed to promote physical activity, enhance mental and emotional functioning, and increase independence for physically and psychosocially impaired individuals, especially in hospitals and long-term care facilities.

Exercise Therapist / Fitness Instructor

  • Leads group and individual exercise sessions designed to promote and maintain optimal physical strength, flexibility, and cardio-pulmonary function.

Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA)

  • Work under the supervision of the Physical Therapist to carry out therapies in patients with temporary or long-term physical disabilities. Train patients in the use of assistive devices.

Physical Therapist (PT)

  • Diagnose and treat individuals with temporary or long-term musculoskeletal dysfunction to relieve pain, restore function, and prevent or limit injury.

  • Evaluate patients, form treatment plans to resolve the movement or mobility problems, carry out therapies, and supervise other caregivers.
